Motion Picture Association of America - Theatre Employee Camcorder Training Guide: Partners in the Fight Against Film Theft
Does anyone else wish they would take some of that reward money and make movies that don't suck? I know I do. I have not seen a decent movie in quite a while. Add to that the crappy theatre experience. Screaming kids, crowds, idiots on cell phones, fat heads in front of you, its always too cold, and theatres are so damn expensive. I can sit at home and watch a DVD on my 52 inch tv with booming 5.1 surround sound in my underwear and pause when I want to and can have a beer or do whatever I want, why bother going out. Why spend $8 on a ticket, $4 for a coke, $3 for a Hershey bar, and have to put up with assholes when I can order a pay-per-view for $3.95 and watch at home. I'll watch just about anything at home for $3.95 but I am not willing to take the chance on a movie in a theater that cost me $15, $30 if I take a date.
I am sure piracy is part of the problem but I am guessing only a small part. Why not embrace new technology and work with it, make DVDs available sooner, make them cheaper, offer downloads of movies like iTunes (iFilms maybe?) or work with cable/satellite companies and beef up InDemand (pay-per-view), I use it all the time.
The porn industry has not complained about piracy, they go with it, there is tons available online, lots free to the user, they make money with ads and downloads and are booming, why not do that instead of spending millions to treat your paying customers like criminals.
